Director of Logistics

Our client, an elevated childrenswear apparel manufacturer is seeking a Director of Logistics to join their team in NYC!

Responsibilities:‍

Oversee the day-to-day performance of third-party logistics (3PL) partners, including inbound and outbound operations, inventory accuracy, and service-level performance.
Manage relationships with freight forwarders and transportation partners, including contract negotiations and rate reviews across ocean and air freight.
Monitor shipping and routing compliance and identify root causes of chargebacks, developing strategies to reduce recurring issues.
Track containers, shipment ETAs, and port-to-distribution-center visibility.
Coordinate with customs brokers and internal partners on duties, tariffs, customs requirements, and import-related processes.
Manage outsourced logistics and operations vendors, ensuring service levels, performance, and costs align with business objectives.
Develop and manage freight budgets, analyze transportation spend, and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies.
Partner with 3PLs, carriers, and internal teams on peak-season capacity planning and overall logistics strategy.
Monitor key logistics KPIs and provide regular reporting on service levels, freight costs, inventory accuracy, and compliance.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency across the broader logistics network.

Qualifications:

7+ years of experience.
Experience working with major retail partners and their logistics or compliance requirements.
Demonstrated success negotiating vendor or carrier agreements and delivering measurable cost savings.
Experience with peak-season planning and capacity management in a high-volume environment.
Proven experience managing third-party logistics (3PL) providers and holding partners accountable to service-level agreements.
Experience managing freight forwarders and negotiating ocean and air freight contracts.
Strong understanding of transportation operations, container tracking, shipment visibility, and distribution processes.
Experience working with EDI and ERP systems, including routing guides, ASNs, and related logistics data.
Working knowledge of tariffs, duties, customs processes, and import documentation.
Strong understanding of retail compliance, routing requirements, and chargeback management.
Demonstrated experience with freight budgeting, carrier rate analysis, and cost-saving initiatives.
Strong vendor management and negotiation skills, with a track record of improving performance and/or reducing costs.
Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
