Technical Designer
Our client, an apparel company, is looking for a Technical Designer to join their team in NYC!
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced expertise in garment fit, construction, materials, and workmanship
- Lead and communicate clear, detailed fit, quality, and construction comments to factories and agents, with a strong focus on child-specific standards and compliance
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance fit, quality, and development processes across all styles
- Develop and support audit systems to regularly assess fit and construction throughout development and production stages
- Ensure all factory partners understand and consistently execute brand fit standards, quality expectations, and safety requirements for infant and toddler apparel
- Conduct competitive benchmarking to maintain best-in-class fit, construction, and overall product quality within the children’s market
- Manage development and production workflows, ensuring timelines and key milestones are met
- Create, maintain, and update grading rules, size specs, and tolerance standards specific to infant and toddler categories
- Oversee the full fit approval process, including pre-production and top-of-production samples, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Maintain consistency in fit, construction, and quality across all products and categories
- Serve as a technical expert on fit and construction, aligning execution with brand standards and design intent
- Track, organize, and manage all fit samples, technical packages, and related documentation
Qualifications
- Proven experience in technical design
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fitting, grading, and safety requirements specific to infant and toddler products
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational, time management, and follow-through abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Adaptable, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and Adobe Illustrator
- Solid patternmaking knowledge and experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in technical design or product development
- Strong technical expertise in garment fit, construction, and quality execution
