Controller
Family Office seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations across a growing multifamily apartment portfolio. This role is well suited for an experienced real estate accounting leader who enjoys building structure, modernizing systems, and working closely with ownership to bring clarity and discipline to financial reporting.
The Controller will lead all core accounting functions, including monthly and annual closes, consolidated financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. This individual will ensure GAAP-compliant practices across a complex, multi-entity structure and serve as the primary accounting partner for lenders, supporting underwriting, refinancings, and ongoing reporting.
A key focus of the role is strengthening infrastructure—evaluating and improving accounting systems, aligning property management platforms with the general ledger, standardizing policies and procedures, and driving process improvements that enhance efficiency, scalability, and internal controls. The Controller will also oversee property-level accounting, construction and renovation accounting, capital projects, and support acquisitions and dispositions.
This position includes leadership of internal accounting staff and third-party resources, coordination of audits, tax and lender reporting, payroll oversight, and compliance with loan covenants and internal policies.
Qualifications include 10–15+ years of multifamily real estate accounting experience, a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred), strong technical and systems expertise, and a hands-on leadership style suited for a lean, entrepreneurial environment. Advanced Excel and QuickBooks skills are required, with Yardi experience strongly preferred.
