AR Accountant
Our client, a fashion retail company, is seeking an FP&AR Accountant to join their New York team.
Key Responsibilities
-Lead the full-cycle wholesale billing and collections process, including invoice generation and submission to third-party AR factoring partners for credit-approved accounts.
-Oversee day-to-day relationships with factoring partners, managing credit applications, approvals, exposure limits, and reporting accuracy.
-Track customer payment trends, chargebacks, and deductions to identify recurring issues and recommend operational or policy enhancements.
-Drive working capital efficiency initiatives by improving DSO, minimizing unapplied cash, and proactively resolving aged receivables.
-Perform monthly reconciliation of the AR subledger to the general ledger and factoring partner statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
-Maintain accurate and compliant records of invoices, credits, debits, cash applications, and adjustments in line with internal controls.
-Support month-end and year-end close processes through preparation of AR schedules, reconciliations, and related journal entries.
-Generate AR aging, collections, and cash receipt reporting to inform cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning.
-Partner with FP&A to provide actionable insights supporting revenue projections, bad debt reserves, and customer profitability analysis.
-Evaluate historical payment performance to inform credit risk assessments and reserve recommendations.
-Conduct ad hoc financial analysis related to revenue trends, chargebacks, returns, and dispute resolution.
-Partner closely with Sales, Operations, and Customer Service teams to resolve billing discrepancies and enhance the overall customer experience.
-Serve as a primary contact for customer inquiries regarding invoices, payments, and account status.
-Support internal and external audit processes by providing AR documentation, reconciliations, and analytical support as required.
Qualifications
-3–5 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on accounts receivable.
fashion wholesale/retail experience strongly preferred.
-Advanced Excel skills
-Experience working with ERP/accounting systems
