Design Director - Womenswear

Our client, a contemporary brand, is looking for a Design Director to join their team in NYC!

Responsibilities:

-Lead and articulate a clear, fashion-forward creative vision for a contemporary brand
-Direct seasonal concept development, establishing color palettes, key styles, and storytelling themes that reinforce brand identity.
-Conduct trend and market research to shape forward-thinking seasonal strategies that support the brand’s continued evolution.
-Design capsule collections and exclusive projects that balance creativity, luxury appeal, and commercial viability.
-Present design concepts, materials, and technical innovations to leadership and retail partners through compelling visual and verbal communication.
-Oversee prototype and sample development, introducing innovative fabrics, trims, and construction methods to enhance collection quality.
-Manage and mentor the design team, maintaining workflow efficiency and ensuring deadlines align with the seasonal calendar.
-Collaborate cross-functionally with production, technical design, product development, and marketing teams to align on brand and business objectives.
-Review tech packs for accuracy, ensuring design integrity is maintained through production.

Qualifications:

-10+ years of experience in ready-to-wear design with deep knowledge of garment construction, fitting, grading, and costing.
-Proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire, mentor, and manage a design team effectively.
-Entrepreneurial mindset with strong initiative, problem-solving ability, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
-Exceptional presentation, storytelling, and communication skills.
-Collaborative team player experienced in working with cross-functional partners to drive brand alignment and growth.
