Associate Design Director - Juniors

Our client, a wholesale apparel manufacturing brand, is seeking an Associate Design Director to join their NYC team!


Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Juniors design team, with a primary focus on athleisure, fleece, sweat, and lounge categories.
  • Partner closely with the Design Director (soon-to-be VP) to develop seasonal concepts, line plans, and trend direction.
  • Drive the creative process from concept through final sample, ensuring alignment with brand aesthetic and market relevance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with merchandising, production, and sales to deliver cohesive and commercially successful assortments.
  • Manage and mentor junior designers, fostering an environment of creativity, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Review and approve sketches, tech packs, and color/print direction to maintain design consistency and quality standards.
  • Attend fittings and provide feedback on garment construction, fabrication, and overall design execution.
  • Research and analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging influences to inform future design direction.


Qualifications

  • 7+ years of design experience within the Juniors or contemporary market, with a strong background in athleisure, lounge, or fleece.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop design teams in a fast-paced, trend-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of merchandising strategy and the ability to design into line plans and price points.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM systems.
  • Excellent eye for color, fabric, silhouette, and detail, with the ability to balance creativity and commercial appeal.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; confident working cross-functionally with senior leadership.
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through, time management, and multitasking abilities.
