Packaging Engineer
A fast-growing beauty and wellness company is seeking a Packaging Engineer to join its Product R&D team. As a Packaging Engineer, you will lead the development of packaging specifications, support new product launches, conduct performance testing, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Quality, Regulatory, and external suppliers. This is a highly hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
MUST be able to work a Hybrid schedule in El Segundo office.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and approve packaging specifications, engineering drawings, and dielines
• Generate product samples, mockups, and technical documentation for new and revised packaging
• Conduct packaging tests (e.g., drop, ship, vibration, smear, dispense) to ensure quality and durability
• Manage packaging component sourcing and collaborate with contract manufacturers
• Approve artwork, proofs, color standards, and production codes
• Ensure compatibility of packaging with formulas and filling processes
• Implement new packaging technologies and risk mitigation strategies
• Lead first article inspections and quality checks for new packaging runs
• Maintain up-to-date packaging development reports and systems documentation
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
• At least 5+ years of packaging engineering experience in the cosmetics or consumer goods industry
• Proven experience sourcing packaging components and managing external vendors
• Strong testing and validation skills for packaging performance and compliance
• Detail-oriented with excellent project management and organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Oracle and packaging databases preferred
• Strong communication, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Ability to work in-office 2 days/week and travel occasionally as needed
