Back End Engineer (APP)
Our client is on a mission to redefine emotional wellness by developing a private journaling platform. We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a small, focused team and help build the secure, scalable backbone of the product. This is a chance to work on meaningful challenges that sit at the intersection of health, AI, and human connection.

What You’ll Do
- Architect & build a serverless-first infrastructure: API Gateway, Lambda, SQS/SNS/EventBridge, S3, and Postgres/Aurora — all delivered with Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD pipelines.
- Create secure data boundaries: KMS key rotation, least-privilege IAM policies, immutable audit logs, and advanced secret management.
- Design resilient LLM pipelines: Support journaling summaries and long-form memory with idempotent workflows, retries, DLQs, OpenTelemetry, and latency/cost guardrails.
- Implement robust AuthN/Z: Apple/Google sign-in, HTTP-only JWTs, and mobile API best practices.
- Own reliability & observability: Define SLOs, monitor metrics/logs/traces, and participate in incident response to keep APIs performant and dependable.
Hard Must-Haves
- 5+ years professional backend engineering experience (production systems).
- 2+ years Go in production.
- Proven success shipping event/queue-driven architectures on AWS (Lambda + SQS/SNS/EventBridge) at scale (50k+ DAU equivalent or more).
- PostgreSQL at scale: schema design, migrations, performance tuning, connection management.
- Strong security mindset: encryption in transit/at rest, IAM design, secrets/KMS experience, incident ownership.
- On-call experience with production observability (metrics, logs, traces, SLOs).
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in HIPAA or other regulated environments; threat modeling skills.
- AI/LLM pipeline integration and governance around token/cost.
- IaC (Terraform or CDK) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
- Mobile API performance optimization patterns.
