Summary
The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods to support our production and supply chain operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven track record of achieving cost savings and supplier performance improvements. On site, in the Santa Clarita Valley (Valencia, CA.)
Responsibilities
• Sourcing and Supplier Selection:
• Identify potential suppliers and vendors for raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods through market research, supplier evaluations, and networking.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities, quality standards, and pricing to make informed sourcing decisions.
• Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure continuity of supply, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
• Negotiation and Contract Management:
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and improve procurement efficiency.
• Review and analyze supplier contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
• Monitor supplier performance and address any issues or concerns to ensure adherence to quality and delivery requirements.
• Purchase Order Management:
• Generate purchase orders for raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods based on production schedules and inventory requirements.
• Monitor purchase orders to ensure timely delivery and fulfillment of orders and address any discrepancies or delays.
• Work closely with suppliers and logistics partners to coordinate shipping and delivery schedules and resolve any issues related to order fulfillment.
• Inventory Management:
• Collaborate with production planners and inventory managers to optimize inventory levels and minimize stockouts or excess inventory.
• Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and components to ensure availability to support production schedules and customer demand.
• Identify opportunities for inventory optimization and cost reduction through inventory management strategies and initiatives.
• Supplier Relationship Management:
• Foster positive relationships with suppliers and vendors through effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
• Address supplier concerns and issues in a timely and professional manner to maintain strong partnerships and ensure continuity of supply.
• Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and evaluations to assess quality, delivery, and overall satisfaction.
Education
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field or equivalent work experience
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience required.
• Mid to high level break-fix & preventative maintenance experience required.
• Experience with troubleshooting of PLC controlled equipment required.
Skills/ Abilities Problem Solving
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in the nutraceutical or consumer goods industry.
• Proven track record of success in sourcing, negotiation, and supplier management.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis and procurement software.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) is a plus
Work Environment
The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary.
Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly require talking, hear and grasp items. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, strong fumes, loud noises, and occasionally extreme temperatures
The employee must frequently grasp, lift and/or move items 10 pounds and occasionally grasp, lift and/or move items 33lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
