Accounting Manager

Our fashion client is looking for a motivated Accounting Manager to join its team. This is a very hands-on role, and this individual will play an integral part in all aspects of accounting operations and a wide variety of projects. Working with our founder and CFO, you will ensure timely and accurate financial data by overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping and by owning the monthly, quarterly, year-end closing, reporting, and auditing processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the CFO to ensure compliance with accounting policies, reporting standards, and system accuracy
  • Manage QuickBooks: code/match transactions, perform monthly close, bank reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Generate monthly financial reports including P&L, Balance Sheet, and expense details
  • Prepare weekly cash flow reports
  • Process bi-weekly payroll and assist with benefits administration (e.g., employee clothing orders)
  • Handle Accounts Payable: enter invoices and process weekly payments
  • Manage Accounts Receivable, including collections and weekly reporting
  • Own inventory reporting (raw materials, WIP, finished goods) and month-end inventory reports
  • Manage petty cash and monthly sales tax filings
  • Prepare monthly commission reports
  • Support the CFO with reporting, analysis, and budget/expense management
  • Manage business registrations, filings, and related compliance tasks
  • Administer benefits plans with support from outsourced HR (medical, dental, 401k, etc.)
  • Prepare account reconciliations (prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, deferred revenue)
  • Oversee Cost of Goods Sold and inventory planning
  • Reconcile AR from major retailers and AP from manufacturing vendors/contractors
  • Prepare tax filings (W2s, 1099s, sales tax)
  • Oversee general office operations: supplies, janitorial, maintenance, incoming mail

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Quickbooks (Required)
  • Experience with month end close and understanding of financial statements a must
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (Required)
  • Concentration in Accounting or Finance (Preferred)
  • 1-2+ years working with a start-up business (Preferred)
  • Experience in apparel or consumer goods
  • Familiarity with GAAP, accrual accounting and inventory/cost accounting, CPA certification preferred
  • Fastidious attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including regular communication as well as presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong interest in working for early-stage start-ups and in a collaborative environment
